Social Media

The Creative Team is responsible for the stewardship of the Anime For Humanity/Anime Therapy social channels and marketing. They’re accountable for the organic editorial calendar and work with partners across the community relations, digital marketing, talent brand, and other teams to orchestrate the social media landscape for Anime For Humanity.

Social Media: General Guidelines

Prioritize quality and authenticity

Our goal is not about “what” to post, but “WHY? we post” (e.g. educating the public about mental health through anime, making their day with a meme, bringing a little hope into people's life... etc.).

Be Super Consistent:

One of the most important rules when it comes to social media success is consistency. It will help refine our analytics and strategy.

Get personal:

Show our audience the face behind the organization and share more personal posts to get to know Anime For Humanity better!

Fundraisers:

The fundraising effort helps us secure a booth and provide the Anime Therapy Kits (mental health resources) for free. It wouldn't be possible without the streamers and all the volunteers who help spread the word! With your support, we continue to carry the message of hope and bring a conversation about mental health into unexpected places.
  1. NewName(December 1st - January 7th) is our year-end fundraiser celebration of everything you've achieved and everything you hope to achieve in the next year.
  1. Play Anime (May 1st - 31st) is our mid-year fundraiser during May Mental Health Awareness Month and also project Animay.

Social Media: Channels

Social Media at Anime For Humanity has OKRs

Organic social media has a very particular way of succeeding. It's critical for the social team to lead the purpose and the OKRs that are focused on in order to align with best practices. While organic social media at Anime For Humanity may, at times, take requests from different teams with different objectives, it's important to remember that:
  • It's more akin to storytelling and raising awareness for mental health than to direct marketing.
  • Our content goes worldwide and integrated, and organic social is top-of-funnel activity driving impressions, engagements, and conversations with assistance in link click to move users further down the funnel for the next team to work with.
  • The social team aids in the overall marketing of Anime For Humanity.

Social Media: Brands, Bios, and Links

The social media accounts’ goal is to spread the Anime for Humanity mission statement of challenging the stigmas surrounding mental health, creating mental health awareness, and helping people find the mental health resources they need to seek professional help. We also want to let followers know what conventions we are exhibiting at so they can come to say hi and grab their free Anime Therapy Kit.
Sometimes bios and links will change on select social channels, depending on campaigns. The links here are also UTM links, ensuring that we can better measure visits to our site from the link in bio clicks.

Content Writing Guiding Principles

Following these principles will help us write with purpose.

Simple

Simple words and sentences are always preferred. Edit ruthlessly.

Human

We should speak with our audience instead of at them. Warm and relatable is always better than corporate and cold.

Considered

Always consider the audience. What is most helpful? What is most relevant?

Grammar

Proper grammar promotes clarity and helps us speak in a professional voice.
  • Contractions are encouraged. They add a friendly, informal tone.
  • Use emojis tastefully and in moderation.
  • Avoid slang. Write in plain English.
  • Technical terms should always be accompanied by a clear definition.
  • Always spell out acronyms word-for-word the first time they're used.

Design

While we look to the design team to provide integrated campaign assets and elements to use on social, many rapid design needs are fulfilled by the social team directly by Using Canva.
Canva provides the social team with an easy-to-use tool on any device to quickly spin up designs. Social Media requires rapid responses and quick turnarounds, so to do we require the same of our designs.

Social Media: Going Dark

When an incident occurs, it may be appropriate for the social team to pause all brand channel social posts. This is called "going dark", and is a regular part of evaluating whether or not company messaging is appropriate to share at any given time. It is considered good practice to minimize the digital space brands occupy on social media during these times. This can help not distract social conversation but can also reduce the probability of being accidentally caught up in conversation unintentionally, sounding tone-deaf, or otherwise coming across as insensitive.
When this occurs, time-sensitive posts will be the first to be rescheduled. It could have a negative impact on social metrics, depending on the severity and length of time we're dark. Going dark could also negatively impact specific CTAs if we're relying on organic social to perform. These considerations are a part of making the decision and will be communicated as often as appropriate.
